چکیده

Introduction hyroid gland receives more blood per gram of tissue (5.5 ml/gm/min) than any other organ. 1 All blood is supplied by a number of arteries and drained by an even greater number of veins. Recurrent laryngeal nerve is intimately related with thyroid gland especially with inferior thyroid arteries. The diseases which usually affect the thyroid gland are hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, autoimmune thyroiditis, Graves’ disease of which hypothyroidism due to iodine deficiency is the commonest. 2

An incidental finding of the accessory inferior thyroid artery

Inferior thyroid artery is one of the main arteries supplying thyroid gland and laryngeal muscles. It also supplies pharynx, esophagus, trachea and thymus. It emerges from the thyrocervical trunk of the subclavian artery at the level of C6 vertebra. Then, it rapidly curves inferomedially, crossing the bundle of common carotid artery, internal jugular vein and vagus nerve. Further, it continues ...

Variations In The Course Of the Superior and Inferior Thyroid Arteries In Relation To the External & Recurrent Laryngeal Nerves

Introduction: A thorough knowledge of the thyroid anatomy and its associated anatomical variations is very important for the clinicians. The variations in the course of the vessels and nerves in the vicinity of the thyroid may prove to be a nightmare for surgeons. Therefore a detailed study on it equips the surgeon with vital information in the event of any such encounter. Aim & Objectives: To ...

A rare occurrence of an accessory thyroid artery

As most anatomy atlases will illustrate, thyroid glands receive their blood supply from one superior thyroid artery arising from the external carotid artery, and from one inferior thyroid artery, branching off the thyrocervical trunk, which also gives rise to the suprascapular, transverse cervical and ascending cervical arteries. In addition to its branches to the inferior region of the thyroid...

Anatomical relationship between recurrent laryngeal nerve and inferior thyroid artery in thyroidectomy patients.

BACKGROUND Thyroid surgery is performed very frequently now a day. Previously it was used to be associated with high morbidity especially hoarseness. This complication is now almost negligible as most of the surgeons are well acquainted with the anatomical knowledge of the nerves in relation to the gland. The objective of this study was to find out variable anatomical relationships between Recu...

Relationship between the recurrent laryngeal nerve and the inferior thyroid artery: a study in corpses.

The anatomical relationship between the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) and the inferior thyroid artery (ITA) was studied in 76 embalmed corpses, 8 females and 68 males. In both sexes, the RLN lay more frequently between branches of the ITA.; it was found in this position in 47.3% of male corpses and 42.8% of female ones. On the right, RLN was found between branches of the ITA in 49.3% of the c...
